Sunday Post # 1 | Back on the Horse

the sunday post

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

I started this new blog on June 7th, excited to start book blogging once again – and to get back into my love of all things books. Unfortunately, I had some setbacks—familial and health-wise—that put blogging on the back burner for a couple of weeks. As we all know, there are things that are more important then blogging and reading (as much as it hurts to say), so I had to focus on healing.

You might be wondering what happened. Well, As many of you may know, I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since I was 15 years old. The last four years, it has been very steady, with little to no relapses or flairs. This made my Nuerologist and I decide that it was time to stop Tysabri—a monthly infusion that stopped the advancement of my MS—because we deemed it too risky to stay on it when my MS was so stable. Tysabri is a drug that one shouldn’t stay on long-term. There is a very rare chance of contracting a fatal brain infection (PML), but the longer you take it, the more said risk increases. Especially if you are JC virus positive (a common virus almost everyone is exposed to sometime in your life. It causes PML, but only affects people with compromised immune systems) and I have been positive for over 2 years.

I changed to a once daily pill once I finished high school. Two weeks in, I had a rebound attack (stopping Tysabri has a very high risk of sparking a rebound relapse) that gave me optic neuritis and caused me to go blind in my right eye. Suffice to say, I couldn’t read or blog for quite a while. My vision still has not returned completely to normal, but it’s expected to take 2 weeks or longer to return all the way. I’m just glad to be able to read again! There’s only so much reality TV I can stand to watch without snapping. 😛

  1. I have a friend with MS so I know how difficult it can make life. Hopefully you and your doctor find the right, safe medication to keep you going! It took her some time to get everything balanced, but she hasn’t had a flare in years. She is diligent about her health and its always on her mind. But seriously, vision problems are like an extra punishment to a bookworm!!!
    Hugs!
