Magnus Pack by Shelly Laurenston Series Review #quotetastic

A couple of months ago, my TBT review feature caused a sudden desire to binge read Laurenston’s Pride series. Again. When I was done with that I couldn’t help myself. I just had to re-read the Magnus Pack as well. That’s when I realized it would be the perfect opportunity to finally review this series as well… Thus, today I am reviewing the Magnus Pack series.

What’s an Alpha Male to do when he meets the Alpha Female of his dreams?

Step one, hide all sharp objects.

All Zach Sheridan ever wanted was to become Alpha Male of his Pack and be left alone. What he definitely didn’t need in his life was some needy female demanding his attention. What he never saw coming was the vicious, scarred female who not only demanded his attention but knew exactly how to get it.

Sara Morrighan knew this was the best she could expect from her life. Good friends. A nice place to live. And a safe job. But when Zach rode into her small Texas town with his motorcycle club, Sara knew she wanted more. She knew she wanted him. But after one sexy encounter with her dream biker, everything is starting to change. Her body. Her strength. That new thing she’s doing with the snarling.

Even her best friends are starting to wonder what’s going on with her. But this is only the beginning. Sara’s about to find out her life was meant for so much more. And Zach’s about to find true love with the one woman who makes him absolutely insane.

Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language, and strong violence.

Like most of Shelly Laurenston’s books, PACK CHALLENGE is a novel I’m always excited to re-read. It features one of my all-time favorite Laurenston couples, Zach and Sara, two characters that have fascinated me since their small but entertaining as hell part in THE BEAST IN HIM.

Sara Morrrighan has awesome friends, a nice place to live, and a secure job. So what if her life is a bit tedious and her injured leg has been hurting worse than usual? Her crazy bitch of a grandmother is finally dead, so her life is going a lot better than expect. That is, until Zach’s sexy ass rode into town and turned her world upside down.

His hand reached into her hair and grabbed a handful. “You have no idea what you’re doing,” he growled. And it was a growl—like an angry pit bull. “I’m not nice.”

Yup. There’s the edge. And this is me leaping off it. “If I wanted nice,” she growled back, her hand reaching into his hair and snatching his hand back. “I’d f*cking ask for it.”

Besides Livy from BITE ME, Sara is my favorite Laurenston heroine (even if she does spell her name wrong). She is one crazy, strong, bad-ass bitch that can and will take anything Zach dishes out. She’s just so much fun! Throughout most of PACK CHALLENGE she’s in near constant pain but hides it from her friends because she doesn’t want to worry them. She’s very protective of her friends. In fact, no matter how I feel about each woman of the Magnus Pack series individually, I really appreciate how far these ladies willingly stick their neck out for each other, no matter what ridiculous plan they’ve hatched. And boy do they hatch some wild ones.

Zach was one yummy hero. He’s reluctant to start anything with Sara because he knows how hard he’d fall. She’s perfect to him—if a bit crazy—but he’s not interested in finding a mate. He doesn’t want to settle down and, god forbid, raise pups. All he wants is to be Alpha of the Magnus Pack and undo the damage his alpha’s mate has caused. Except his plans for living a bachelor lifestyle fly out the door anytime he catches Sara’s scent.

PACK CHALLENGE is a wickedly sexy, funny as hell ride. If you haven’t given yourself the opportunity to experience this couple, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

How much trouble can one small female be to a modern-day shapeshifting Viking? Well…it really depends on local gun laws.

Conall Víga-Feilan, direct descendent of Viking shifters, never thought he’d meet a female strong enough to be his mate. He especially didn’t think a short, viper-tongued human would ever fit the bill. But Miki Kendrick isn’t some average human. With an IQ off the charts and a special skill with weapons of all kinds, Miki brings the big blond pooch to his knees—and keeps him there.

Miki’s way too smart to ever believe in love and she knows a guy like Conall could only want one thing from her. But with the Pack’s enemies on her tail and a few days stuck alone with the one man who makes her absolutely wild, Miki is about to discover how persistent one Viking wolf can be.

I have to say, GO FETCH! is my least favorite Laurenston novel. In fact, I believe it’s also the lowest I’ve ever rated one of her books. Why didn’t I enjoy this Magnus Pack sequel? Miki. She ruined this book for me.

Danger is stirring for the Magnus Pack, so when Miki Kendrick much travel to give her dissertation and finally get her doctorate, Conan Víga-Feilan—descendant of Viking shifters and Zach Sheridan’s right hand wolf—decides to tag along. How much trouble could one tiny human female get up to? It’s not long before he starts to realize—as much as possible.

I am so not a Miki Kendrick fan. It’s a real bummer, because I usually love a heroine with brains as well as brawns. Plus, she’s a bookworm! How could I not share a kindred spirit with such a character? Turns out, easily when her big mouth always gets the people around her into hot water. I also dislike how she treats Conan, the blond, goofy, adorable, Viking alpha male of my dreams. Sigh.

Oh well. You win some, you lose some. Not every book will work for you, even if you’re an awesome sauce PNR writer such as Shelly Laurenston.

What do you do when you’ve got a hillbilly tiger by the tail? Or maybe the question should be: what wouldn’t you do…

Nikolai Vorislav likes his single life just as it is. Simple, relaxing and quiet. What he doesn’t need is some foul-mouthed Texan hellcat living in his house, eating his food, flirting with his idiot brothers and shooting holes in his home with his granddaddy’s gun. But those long legs, dark eyes and lethal tongue are making Nik insane and he fears he may be caught in the sexiest animal trap ever.

Angelina Santiago doesn’t know how she got from Texas to North Carolina in a night or how she ended up in some hillbilly tiger’s house wearing only a sheet. What she does know is that she doesn’t like good ol’ boys with slow, sexy drawls who can’t seem to stop rubbing up against her. Yet in order to protect her friends, Angie has to stay with a cat who seems hellbent on finding all sorts of delicious ways to make her purr.

ADORABLE

HERE KITTY, KITTY! is the Magnus Pack series finale and, boy, was it a wild ride! It features Sara’s sassy Latina friend and the sweet talkin’ hillbilly tiger she fell in love with. While I was a mite let down by GO FETCH!, Angelina’s story more than makes up for the previous books frustrating heroine.

Kidnapped by Nik Vorislav’s idiot brothers after a hyena showdown in her shifter run Tennessee town. Angelina decides its safer for everyone if she takes one for the team and stays with the handsome hillbilly tigers when she learns sending the calvary equals taking protection away from Miki. (See, Miki, this is how you be an awesome kick-ass heroine and NOT a selfish asshat heroine who thinks she’s badass.) It has nothing to do with her surprising attraction the panty-melting, sweet talking, Siberian hillbilly. Definitely not.

tenor

Nik Vorislav has completely sworn off human women. They’re way too clingy for the happily unmated tiger… until he meets the one human who wants nothing from him. Nik was my favorite type of alpha male. Undeniably sexy, somewhat goofy, and determined to keep his woman. Even if he—god forbid—turns into his father. Oh did I mention he also has the most hilarious daddy issues? Seriously. This is one instant where daddy issues actually add to the charm.

But my all-time favorite characters? Nik’s brothers!

Bannik and Aleksei glanced at each other. Apart, they were two of the brightest men he knew. But together… Lord, they could be stupid.

He is so not exaggerating! Thankfully, what the Vorislav brother lack in brains, they make up in brawn and cuteness. That counts for something, right?

HERE KITTY, KITTY was a wonderful end to the Magnus Pack series and yet I still need more. I want more Magnus Pack HEAs and most importantly, the Vorislav brothers need their own happily-ever-afters! I know it’s a long shot that Laurenston would ever return to the series, but a girl can dream.
