TBT Review #22 | Black Bird, Vol. 1

throwback thursday reviewsThrowback Thursday Reviews is a weekly meme here @ A Weebish Book Blog. It is a chance to tweak old book reviews, share them with others, and perhaps fall in love with some old favorites.

*By tweaking reviews I do not mean I will be changing review ratings or my opinions, since those are likely to change over the years . I will only be changing grammar errors, wording, sentence structure, etc.

He loves her blood, but does her love her?!

There is a world of myth and magic that intersects ours, and only a special few can see it. Misao Harada is one such person, and she wants nothing to do with magical realms. She just wants to have a normal high school life and maybe get a boyfriend. All that changes one day when Misao is attacked by a demon. Her childhood friend Kyo suddenly returns to save her and tend to her cuts–with his tongue! It turns out Misao is the bride of prophecy, whose blood gives power to the demon clan who claims her. But most demons want to keep her power for themselves–by eating her! Now Misao is just trying to stay alive…and decide if she likes it when Kyo licks her wounds.

YAROMANCE
ADORABLE

Fifteen-year-old Misao Harada has been able to see demons since she was a small child. After her sixteenth birthday, the demons who usually weren’t anything more than playful poltergeists have turned downright deadly. They want to consume her powers or force her hand in marriage.

Meanwhile, childhood friend and first love Kyo, has returned to town and has promised to save her from the demons. Provided she agrees to sleep with him and become his bride, that is. It doesn’t help that she doesn’t remember much about him from her childhood, such as that he’s a tengu demon and leader of his clan.

There is just something so cute and addictive about the characters of BLACK BIRD. I have an obscene crush on both Kyo and Misao, and Kyo’s six-year-old Tengu servant, Taro, is flat-out adorable. He’s all that is chibi and cuddle worthy. I will cry if he ever grows out of the cuteness.

It was entertaining as hell learning the ins and outs of these characters. Plot wise, BLACK BIRD has the same type of cliche story line of other popular shojo, but as a die-hard fan of all that is cute and shojo, I find I don’t mind. It was highly entertaining and I plan to continue reading more from the Black Bird series.
