Chibi Reviews #5 | Ghosties & Lover Eternal

chibi reviews new“Chibi” is a Japanese slang word used often to describe something short and cute in anime/manga/Japanese pop culture. Chibi Reviews is a future showcasing books I’m too lazy to review “short and sweet” reviews.

Hey y’all! Today I am reviewing two of the more opposite books I could possibly choose. GHOSTIES is a Halloween/”spooky” picture book and LOVER ETERNAL is the second book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. They just happen to be two books I don’t feel inspired to write thorough reviews for.

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves…

In LOVER ETERNAL, Rhage meets his match in Mary when she, John Matthew, and Bella appear at the Brotherhood compound to introduce the adorable pre-trans orphan to others of his kind and unwittingly push him closer to his destiny.

Mary and Rhage’s story was not my favorite, but it played a crucial role in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It introduces us to John Matthew and Bella, gifted our tortured MC’s with some much-needed happiness, and set the stage for Zsadist’s book, LOVER AWAKENED.

LOVER ETERNAL was sexy, heartbreaking, and oddly heartwarming. Like all the BDB books, it should come with a complimentary box of Kleenex but the heartache and uncontrollable sobbing was so worth it.

Halloween is in the air.
You’d like to see a ghost – but where?
At night when the sun’s gone down,
Come with me to Ghostie Town . . .
Where you will find the most colorful and cheerful collection of ghosties you could ever hope to meet.
Another silly rhyming kindle picture book from Gerald Hawksley.

ADORABLE

While I don’t have kids to call my own, I do babysit a few that love it when I read to them. When GHOSTIES was free on Amazon, I took advantage of the deal and downloaded a copy of my own. I babysat the weekend before Halloween so the youngest and I cuddled up with my iPad and read about some ghosties.

As he was only two years old, the “spooky” puns at the end of the story were a total bust. He did enjoy reading along and lots of fun pointing out all the pictures of words he knew. At one point he decided he wanted to read it on his own and mixed up GHOSTIES with HUMPTY DUMPTY. Since he was highly entertaining having so much fun, I couldn’t ruin his fun

All-in-all, this picture book was a cute holiday read. Carter and I were both vastly amused, though probably for completely different reasons. LOL. If you’re ever on the lookout for a cute Halloween picture book, give GHOSTIES a shot. It’s no longer free but it is available for free to Kindle Unlimited members.
